INTERVIEW REPORT
Two of our group members did an interview with two of our
teachers who are more educated about the project's issues. We spoke with these
two respondents to learn more about how to avoid and mitigate global warming in
this era of globalisation. A counsellor was our first
respondent, and a geography instructor was our second respondent. Another goal
of this conversation is to learn more about how people around the world feel
about global warming. We also asked both responders certain climate
change-related questions.
Based to the first
responder, climate change and environmental problems are some of the biggest
challenges that we are currently facing and this issue is not a new things in
our life. It has been happening a few years ago. This issue never get done
because there is no awareness in our society neither in school. Just imagine a
planet, where every country and its citizens are environmentally conscious
about how their decisions and daily choices may affect the environment. For instance, our government had launched “No
Plastic Bags” every Saturday and if you want it you have to pay 20 cents per
plastic bag. Can you imagine that our citizens are willing to pay for 20 cents
for each plastic bag rather than use recycle bag which is it is maybe pricey
but we can use at least 10 times. Other than that, the usage of transportation.
As we can see right now, people are willing to drive on their own rather than
use public transport services. It is one way to contribute to nature
conservation and help tackle climate change. There are several greenhouse gases
emit them in a variety of ways. Most come from the combustion of fossil fuels
in cars, buildings and industries.
Respondent was
disagreed with our government action which is they are trying to reduce the
usage of plastic bags but it is not successful at all. So the respondent are
giving other solutions that our government should play their role and change
our citizens mentality by trying to not use plastic bags. It is because plastic
bags took 400 to 1000 years to unraveled and it is harm to our environment
instead of using bag which is eco-friendly such as paper bag. The advice that
the respondent give to our society are the government should play their role to
create awareness among our citizens in order to keep our environment healthy.
For instance, share news on social media, do the 3R campaign, hang up awareness
posters and so on. In other respects, the principal in each schools also to
create awareness among student because it is more easier to let the bamboo bend
from the shoot.
According to the second
responder, logging and dumping of trash in Malaysian cities leads drains and
rivers to become choked, resulting in flash floods. When there is open burning as
a result of a community's attitude, the village chief or those in positions of
power with the highest office in the area play a crucial role in putting a stop
to it. There is no logging in the dwelling area of the second respondent
because the adjacent housing is simply oil palm plantations farmed by FELDA for
economic development. So what we can observe here, in this area
near the respondent's homes, is that there is a cause for global warming,
but it is not logging, but the release of factory smoke created by oil palm
processing. Furthermore, according to the second respondent, one of the ways to
prevent global warming and pollution is to conserve the forest reserve and to
conduct a flora and fauna conservation campaign.
Respondents disagreed that the economy would be closed
simply to avoid an increase in the earth's temperature, resulting in global
warming, because he stated that the economic sector's centres are a generation
that is needed by the entire society, and the economy is important for the country's
progress and well-being in various ways. Planting more trees is
one of the charitable activities that respondent and perhaps the entire
community engage in at home now in order to provide good oxygen to humans,
minimise global warming, and refresh the air for all life on the planet. Others
have made tree-planting a hobby and a point of interest at home. Garbage
management in our country, in his opinion, can also be described as
satisfactory because some areas have done a good job of it.
In a nutshell, even the
most stringent mitigation efforts cannot avoid some impacts of climate change
over the next few decades. Indeed, we are beginning to see impacts now. This
makes adaptation essential, particularly in addressing near-term impacts. However,
unmitigated climate change would, in the long term, be likely to exceed our
capacity to adapt. We need to take part and create awarenessamong our society
to stop global warming and other effects on climate change. If the earth’s
temperatures continue to rise in the future, living things on earth become
extinct due to the high temperatures. So, human must to contribute to control
global warming by planting more trees, this world would be cooler and high
temperatures we currently have would decrease.
